Free Online IGES File Viewer

Drop an IGES file and review surface geometry from legacy CAD systems in your browser. Inspect, measure, and export — no install, no license.

What is a IGES file?

IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification, ANSI Y14.26M) is a vendor-neutral format developed in 1980 for exchanging CAD data between incompatible systems. It predates STEP and remains widely used in mold and die design, surface modeling, and legacy manufacturing workflows. IGES supports wireframes, free-form surfaces, trimmed surfaces, and basic solids.

What you can do with IGES files in CADDaddy

CADDaddy uses OpenCascade via WebAssembly to parse IGES files locally in your browser. Your data never leaves your machine. Navigate complex surface models with 60fps orbit, zoom, and pan controls.

Legacy file support

Open IGES files from older CAD systems — CATIA V4, Pro/ENGINEER, Unigraphics, and more.

Surface inspection

View complex NURBS surfaces and trimmed surface patches with full 3D navigation.

Export to modern formats

Convert IGES to STL or GLB for downstream use in 3D printing, web, or game engines.

Measurement tools

Measure distances with vertex snapping and calibrate units to verify real-world dimensions.

Section plane

Cut through surface models to inspect profiles and cross-sectional geometry.

IGES Viewer FAQ

What is an IGES file?+

IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) is one of the oldest CAD exchange formats, defined by ANSI as a vendor-neutral way to share 3D and 2D design data. IGES files (.iges or .igs) can contain wireframes, surfaces, solids, and annotations. While largely superseded by STEP, IGES remains common in legacy systems, mold design, and surface modeling workflows.

How do I open IGES files without CAD software?+

CADDaddy opens IGES files directly in your browser using WebAssembly-based geometry processing. Drag and drop your .iges or .igs file — no install, no plugins, no account required.

What is the difference between IGES and STEP?+

Both are vendor-neutral CAD exchange formats, but STEP (ISO 10303) is the modern successor. STEP handles solid geometry, assembly structure, and product metadata more reliably. IGES focuses on surface and wireframe data. Use STEP when possible; use IGES when working with legacy files or surface-heavy designs.

Can I convert IGES to STL?+

Yes. Upload your IGES file to CADDaddy, inspect the geometry, then export as STL for 3D printing or GLB for web applications.

Why do some IGES files look incomplete?+

IGES supports many entity types and some CAD exporters write non-standard or partial entities. CADDaddy handles the most common entity types (surfaces, trimmed surfaces, solids) used in production workflows.

Is the IGES viewer free?+

Yes. Viewing is completely free with no account. Export and advanced tools (measurement, sections) are available with the Pro plan — a one-time $19 payment.
